Doctor en Fisiología Celular y Molecular, Cinvestav 1991; Postdoctorado en Centro de Neurobiología, Hamburgo, Alemania 1992. Interesado en la Polaridad, contactos celulares y permeabilidad epitelial, Na/K-ATPasa como receptor y molécula de adhesión, y el papel de la ouabaina como hormona reguladora epitelial. Demostré que el ion calcio dispara la formación, ensamble y sellado de las uniones oclusoras e induce la expresión polarizada de la Na/K-ATPasa fundamentales en los epitelios. Demostré también que la expresión polarizada de la Na/K-ATPasa involucra un mecanismo que la quita de los sitios de la membrana en donde no debe estar. Además, demostré que la ouabaína, una substancia que hoy se considera una hormona reguladora de la presión arterial, entre otras funciones, afecta drásticamente los contactos celulares a través de vías metabólicas que inducen la eliminación de las moléculas de adhesión de la membrana celular, y a concentraciones semejantes a la hormonal, aumenta la adhesion, comunicación y migración celular. Entre las vías metabolicas de control, describí una nueva que involucra al factor de transcripcion STAT3. Tengo intrés en investigar los mecanismos de control de la adhesión por señales del ambiente e investigué cómo el factor de crecimiento epidermal induce la diferenciación de las células epiteliales a estados más herméticos. Dado que muchas enfermedades autoinmunes se generan por un aumento de la permeabilidad del epitelio intestinal, la investigación sobre los efectos de este factor arrojan luz sobre los mecanismos patogénicos de estas enfermedades y plantea posibles tratamientos. Dado también que muchas de las enfermedades comienzan con la interaccion del agente patogeno con un epitelio, los resultados que hemos publicado ayudan a entender los mecanismos celulares de infecciones y el cáncer
